Vets warn over beach bans for dogs

Dog owners in Essex have been warned to be aware of new beach restrictions imposed across the county for the duration of the summer season.

Many popular beaches now have total bans on dogs until the end of September, while others still welcome pets all year around.

Vets at Cherrydown Vets, which has practices in Basildon, Stanford Le Hope and Wickford, have urged dog lovers to make sure they know where they can and can’t exercise their pets.

Cherrydown’s clinical director Kevin Wood said: “The busy summer season is about to begin and many restrictions have already come into force.

“There are total bans on some of the most popular beaches, along with exclusion zones in other tourist areas, but there are still plenty of places where dogs are welcome.

“It’s important dog owners know exactly where they can and can’t exercise their dogs to prevent them falling foul of the rules and regulations – and also to stop them getting any potential injuries by straying into areas they shouldn’t be.”
